Hairdo Archaeologist By day, Janet Stephens is a hairdresser at a Baltimore salon, trimming bobs and wispy bangs. By night she dwells in a different world. At home in her basement, with a mannequin head, she meticulously re-creates the hairstyles of ancient Rome and Greece.
Here's her YouTube channel and an interview.

I posted about her recently on MeFi; she got lots of notice for her work on hair at the last AIA conference.

That's really cool, Miko. My dad, who volunteers at the Walters Art Museum, sent me the WSJ article today, saying she'd been at the Walters in mid-January. I should have searched to see if there was mention of her work here or on the mothership, but I was overwhelmed with how cool her stuff was and figured, even if it's old news it's still pretty boss.

That's awesome. Was she doing a program at the Walters? I would love to have someone like her do a program, but we have no classical stuff where I work so it wouldn't be relevant. But it would be pretty amazing. Someone in the MeFi thread linked to a professor's video made with students who dressed up and modelled as caryatids, which was pretty awesome too.

I think it was just for a visit with curators and maybe docents, but I can ask next time I talk to my papa. As a docent he's heard some great lectures by real experts, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's why she was there.

That was a great and interesting thread on Meffy. Thanks for posting it!
