The haters guide to the Williams-Sonoma catalog [More:]Both the article and the comments are wonderful.

W-S is the US equivalent of Lakeland - although Lakeland doesn't sell tableware, and it has a massive section of household/cleaning products. But it does have the full spectrum of 'gourmet' food items, foreign speciality kit and useless, single-purpose utensils. And it bombards you with catalogues, which I admit I love to receive, they're great bathroom reading.

Lakeland's saving grace is all the cleaning products it sells, and EasiYo. I admit I can spent hours wandering round Lakeland, and I also love a good Williams-Sonoma browse, although neither are a patch on Sur La Table. I do love a good cookshop.
I'd also add that I've had ebelskivers (after seeing Arron Sanchez rave about Shopsins' banana ebelskivers on the Food Network) and they are f'ing delicious. Although I wouldn't bother to buy a special $40 pan to make them myself.

In any W-S store or catalog picture where there's books in the background, they rent them from my store. Really.

Actually, I could use a big-ass split spatula. 3 or 4 times a week, even.

Funny stuff. But to be fair, WS also sells some wonderful things, including my awesome no stick fry pan and egg poacher. Not every item in the catalog is silly. And for kitchen/food hounds like me, the silly is outweighed by the joy of the rest of the catalog. Which also includes some pretty decent recipes.
