31 January 2013

Interview attire: OVERTHINKING I have an interview today. It's super windy and 40F. I haven't been on an interview in ages.
[More:]
I kinda feel like wearing my suit with heels is weird because I'm not wearing socks. And my my skirt cardigan boots thing is pretty stylish. I have appropriate accessories. It's a bit more dressy than just business casual I think. (the boots are western style Frey boots in excellent shape). I would also feel more comfortable in the cardigan skirt outfit.

The interview is for a Requirements Analyst for a web app, and I'll be meeting with the RA team lead and the UX team lead for the interview, both women. I kinda have a feeling this is not a suit environment or suit level type of job.

I just hate when I see girls/women dressed in weather inappropriate clothing for interviews or jobs (or even just in general because they think it's what they "need" to be wearing.) So now I am in that quandary.
this is the skirt

with dark red tights, peach cardigan, and off white shirt, brown boots.

otherwise, it's a navy suit from Limited with same off white shirt and my nice heels.

i need to know by 230 pm Eastern.

thank you bunnies!

I think the suit would be appropriate and the skirt probably would not be (looks springy to me). Good luck!

but wearing with high heels with pants (which is practically bare feet)is appropriate? just seems weird. but i currently work in an office where i can wear a hoodie and baseball hat sooo...

the pants are this style but in navy.

it's not unprofessional to have almost bare feet in winter with pants? i mean this seriously. i am clueless here.

I think you should go with the suit. The weather inside is what counts. Good luck!

ok. thanks. i guess i was afraid of looking one of those girls running around in a short skirt and heels when it's snowing. i realize that is not how i will look. however, my little anxiety word machine likes to gear up at times like this.

thank you internet!

i'll let you all know how it goes!!!!

Suit is the ticket. No socks or stockings/knee high stockings will be fine and heels are fine in winter. You can also wear boots to the interview and change to your heels inside.

Skirt outfit is too casual IMHO for job interview.

wow! i have never had such a great interview!

i think it went really well cause they said stuff like "we really like that you said that" and "that sounds great that you have experience". and they kept looking at each other and smiling in a way that i know said "oh yeah. she's the one."

plus the interviewers were both tech girls and that is awesome. i could use female nerd in my life. super super excited.

and you all were right - the suit was appropriate!

they need someone really soon so i'll know soon. eeeek!!!
