3-point Monday rambling →[More:]
1) It's one of those nice January days when we have bright sun, snow on the ground, and yet it's warm enough that I just now saw a
boxelder bug beetling about on the sidewalk when I went outside.
2a) Learning to drive stick has had this weird effect of making me quite a bit more patient, attentive and compassionate with other road users as a bike commuter. I thought I was pretty good with observing/blowing off driver foibles, but it's definitely a new headspace for me. Likely temporary, but who knows. It's definitely a plus not to arrive at work fuming about idiots tho.
2b) I've had the same vividly recurrent stress-dream for YEARS, like, for most of my life now (probably since I learned how to drive as a kid). It's that one where you're trying to drive somewhere from like, the back seat or something, or for whatever reasons you can't reach the brake pedals or steer properly, and you're just out of control and the car is hurtling towards doom, etc... I used to have it quite frequently, like 2-3x per month, and I figured it was just a stress signifier. Since I learned how to drive stick shift last summer, I haven't had it once.
3) I impulse-bought a pretty bright yellow phalaeonopsis orchid the other day. They're supposed to be "pretty easy to grow". Now I'm diligently researching how NOT to kill it. I haven't had houseplants in forever.
