What Are You Doing New Year's Eve? (Ella Fitzgerald). It's the last day of the December Musical Gifstravaganza, and it's New Year's Eve as well. So I thought this would be a good thread to share what you're doing, and what you might be listening to tonight. [More:]What's on your NYE playlist? Perhaps the most played midnight song is "Auld Lang Syne". (a brief history). There are thousands of versions of this song, many are cheesy, and few are original. I like this one by Dejan's Olympia Brass Band (youtube), but one of my favorites is from the dawg music guy David Grisman. Something about starting the new year with some bluegrass to put a spring into your first steps of the year. Enjoy!
We have no plans! Still trying to figure out our day. We might go out and run some errands. Tomorrow I hope to go into Times Square and see the leftovers of the big party- we went a few years ago on New Year's Day and there was still bits of confetti floating around.

As little as possible.

That was directed to Ella, not eeka.

We are having hot wings for dinner then an early toast to the new year as my wife has to be up at 5:30 tomorrow.

My only plan is to hit the gym, and listen to Appetite For Destruction on repeat, as I intend to learn all of Izzy's rhythm guitar parts.

No plans here much to my delight. I may or may not stay up to watch the ball drop. I seem past the worst of my cold so sleeping sounds to me like a great way of bringing in the new year.

Great round-up! Anyone who's susceptible to the adorkable like I am, Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon Levitt singing "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve" might be right up your alley.

The Fella had oral surgery this morning, so we're staying in with soft food, Percoset, and a stack of DVDs. I'm making mac & cheese and creamed spinach.

elsa: That was totally worth watching. Thx.

Thanks eekacat. I'm planning a quiet New Year's Eve - it's already 7.20 and I'm in for the night, with Lucy curled up next to me on the sofa.

Tomorrow my first run of 2013, just 4km or so, enough to clear the cobwebs.

We went to Trader Joe's and got some treats- stuff for fondue, mango slice, blood orange soda. Fun night in for us!

I'm headed over to some friends' house for a small shindig (fewer than a dozen folks). I don't much care for New Year's as an event, but I don't socialize enough, so I'm going.

Hope you all have/had a good one!

We're going out for a simple dinner at a brewpub, then coming home and having a quiet evening by the fire with some cocktails and snacks, and putting the music on shuffle play. My kind of New Years.

Quiet night for Jon and me, too, as is our custom. Jon picked up lots of goodies -- pate and speck and smoked salmon and cheeses, as well as beer for him and cider for me -- and we'll just hang out and relax and see if we're still awake for the ball drop. I have a bit of a cold myself and took a long nap this afternoon, so I may make it to midnight, but no promises. : ) Happy New Year from Jon and me, in any case!

I made a crock pot of chili today so I ended up ravenously eating dinner early.

Currently I have a kitty curled up next to me so I cannot move. I may have a small glass of something later but there's no way I'm seeing midnight.

Tomorrow I'll help my Mom take down her tree and put away the decorations for another year.

The neighborhood council has commandeered a bar in our tiny little business district for a New Years party. Not very exciting and we'll probably be the youngest people there (and we're not very young) but Google tells me that it's exactly 489 feet from the bar to my front door so driving home drunk won't be an issue.

We are going out to see the Floydian Slips. They are great fun, even though I was never a huge Pink Floyd fan while they were in existence.

This soup for dinner, along with tabouli and some decent French Champagne. . .

Was going to a local midnight bonfire/parade but LT came down with the creeping crud in the form of a bad, coughy cold. He's asleep on cough syrup, and I'm having a party of one. Wondering whether I should break into the growler of wonderful NJ microbrew we picked up on vacation.

I had pizza, Sherlock on DVD (had forgotten how good it is!) and bed by 10.30. Turns out the new year happens even if I'm not awake to witness it! Now feeling pretty good after 10 hours sleep.
