Norman Lear's "Cold Turkey" - Ebert: "What we need are mean comedies, filled with mean and petty people who hate and envy each other, and exhibit the basest of human motives." With Dick Van Dyke and Bob Newhart; music by Randy Newman.
I LOVE this movie. Bob Newhart is so funny when he lets his dark side come out to play.

I was 13 when this came out. I had already been heavily influenced by the Smothers Brothers show, and this served to cement that direction. This is one of the few movies that deserve the description 'caustic' as high praise.

This was one of those movies that I loved as a kid but couldn't find anyone else on the playground that wanted to talk about it. Bob Newhart is fantastic. I just watched this a few years ago for the first time in ages and was glad to see it held up.
