Marveling at the idiocy and looking forward to our post-end-of-the-world evening tomorrow, when the Bear and I are to go out to dinner and then to a ballet performance of the Nutcracker.
Saw the Nutcracker with my mum at the Houston Ballet several years ago. I'd love to drag the mister to it, but he puts his foot down at ballet, Neanderthal that he is.
I've had a bit of a cultural evening - I watched The Nutcracker too, but on Sky Arts, then this came on TV, which absolutely blew my mind, and now I'm watching Michael Feinstein's American Songbook, which is awesome and full of history about American musical theatre. So if the world does end, I'll go happy.
I'm still at work. Then I'll hobble home (sprained ankle) in the rain and will probably play Call of Duty or the new Halo and paint my nails. What color goes well with the end of the world?
Rolling my eyes at the illiteracy about the Maya... Also, baking my famous raspberry Linzer cookies, writing cards for people at work, and setting up my replacement phone.
Something mindless and then sweet sweet sleep (which will be interspersed with me waking up at least 5 times *sigh*). I just hope the pups don't decide I need to be awake to experience the "final minutes" in person.
I think I realize it, but I am surprised that something already debunked like mad a few years ago still got this much traction, and a little surprised at a couple of mentions I have seen people make of how they changed their activities because of this, or called into Talk of the Nation to voice their actual fears about it, or close schools in Michigan for it. It saddens me a little that people think the Maya are all dead and gone (they're still with us as modern people, of course) and that people misunderstand their calendar so badly. And that the calendar used to illustrate most of the stories about it is not even a Mayan calendar. BUt whatever, I guess it's something to talk about.
Oh Michigan, you make it hard for a guy to respect the human race. That said, errands, errands, errands. So much to do, so little time. Also, sandwiches for lunch. Maybe a nap.
So I've been puzzled by why everyone's saying it's all over. The center of the Mayan kingdom is in the Central time zone, and it's still 12/21. The world could still end in the next 90 minutes.
My car battery died tonight after a huge SNAFU waiting for LT to arrive on the train in the rain and as a result we had to cancel a trip to see friends (can't chance the battery dying when we need to get back). It's not the end of the world but it hasn't really been the note I want to go out on either. Glad to have 90 minutes to improve the mood. And if we're still here tomorrow, we're headed to the auto parts store.
