It's been over a decade since I read "The Tin Drum", but Gunter Grass made sure that eels will skeeve me out forever.

It's a great book, and you should definitely read it. I'm hoping someday to make it through the whole Danzig Trilogy (I finished the Tin Drum and started Dog Years, but then got derailed for some reason). There are apparently (I only noticed one, but again...I got derailed) scenes from each book that take place in the other books with more or less significance.

The eel scene is short and stuff of that nature normally doesn't bother me, but for some reason it just stuck with me.
