Yay shuffle threads!

Going to do this w/ my phone, which is my main music player if I'm away from home.

1. Alex Chilton "B.A.B.Y." Chilton had a gift for cover songs, but his laconic take on this one makes me wonder if he didn't love the original as much as I do. Love his version, though, weird as it is.

2. The Glove "Sex-Eye-Make-Up" From 1983, a track from the one-off band formed by Robert Smith of The Cure, and Siouxsie Sioux of Siouxsie & The Banshees.

3. Primal Scream "Pills" An okay song from one of my favorite bands.

4. Wire "I Feel Mysterious Today" A good song from another of my favorite bands.

5. Nine Inch Nails "Even Deeper" I've always been a NIN fan, and coincidentally have been listening to them a lot lately. This is from The Fragile, from 1999, which I think is a hugely underrated album in the NIN catalog. It may be the last "essential" NIN album.

6. The Olivia Tremor Control "Define A Transparent Dream" Oy, ugh. This is a great song from a great Athens, Georgia band, and it reminds me of so many good times, but I'm also still not over the loss of Bill Doss, who died suddenly this summer. I met Bill several times in the 2000s since we hung out in a lot of the same circles, and his death still shocks me and doesn't seem right.

7. Ladytron "Zmeyka"

8. Prince "Delirious" Prince's "1999" album came out when I was in high school, and is part of my musical DNA.

9. The Hidden Cameras "Heji" A band I discovered when someone posted them on MetaChat!

10. Lady Gaga "Electric Chapel" Not one of her best songs, but there it is.

BONUS ROUND: First song on my phone is called "!" by Foetus, and is basically a 4-second orchestral hit. What's funny is that any time I put my player into shuffle mode, it plays this track first, so it's always "WHAM!" and then the first song. I don't know why it does this, but it's kind of hilarious. The last song on my phone is Aphex Twin's "Equation," which is just what people call it because the title actually IS a long equation that probably means something to him but I don't know what it is.
