Powerball jackpot hits $500 million [More:]They say winning doesn't make you happy.

I'm willing to take my chances.
I'm going to win it but I don't mind sharing it with you. I could get by on half.

If either of you win, could you buy me this car? Thanks.

No, Kangaroo, I'm going to win. We bought a ticket ourselves and I also went in on the pool at work. Hopefully our personal ticket will win and I won't have to share with anyone, mwahaha!

I want it and I promise to take care of it and love it and feed it and walk it and...

Well for those of you actually able to purchase tickets... everyone in this thread should get a gift when you win. It's only right. I'd like this.

You may not be able to buy happiness, but you can put a down payment on it.

I don't know that our actual day-to-day stuff would change, but it would be in a nicer house, a second vehicle (truck) and travel. Money would also go to relatives.

If anyone would like to give me a few dollars in hopes that you'll win hundreds of millions, just email for my address. Good luck!

Send layers, guns and money. Please?

Lawyers. But maybe layers.

Money doesn't buy happiness, it's true. The most unhappy person I know is probably the richest. But at least she can be miserable in luxury.

The Powerball FAQ is a lot funnier than you would expect.

IS THERE A SECRET TO IMPROVE YOUR CHANCE OF WINNING POWERBALL?

First, we need to cover some things that don’t work. Swinging a live chicken above your head while wishing for the future numbers does NOT work. There is no improvement to be had by swinging a dead chicken. Although I have not tested it, swinging a bucket of extra crispy is not likely to work either.

Ha, that is funny.

I thought the drawing was last night and checked the numbers during Oliver's 4 a.m. breakfast. But it's tonight!

(funny note: the Powerball website is one of the only websites I've ever been blocked from visiting by the work "browsing content policy" for Gambling. Same with the Mega-Millions site. But I go to all sorts of weird stuff from Metafilter, go figure.)

When I think about it, the richest person I know seems pretty darn happy. YMMV.

I have no idea who the richest person I know is.

I consider that mr alto and I are pretty rich, as we can pay our bills and have plenty left over. That for me is rich enough to be happy. Beyond that I don't consider it very much, though I wouldn't say no to $500m...

Richest people I've known were rather miserable. For one thing, they never really knew who liked them for themselves, versus their money. For a second, they were pretty regular targets of thieves and rip off artists. For a third, horrid family behavior over potential inheritance was an ongoing problem. There are other not so greaat aspects to being rich for many people too . . . managing a lot of money is burdensome and time consuming, living the lifestyle is damned expensive and seals you off from a lot of simple pleasures, and kids can end up being less motivated and/or confident in their own abilities.

Many of the things people long for, like money, beauty, and fame, are tough to deal with in reality.

I'm with altolinguistic. Though I'm not so sure I wouldn't say no to huge wealth, which is one reason I never buy lottery tickets.

this explains the long line at the lotto place today.

i think i'm gonna go get a ticket.

i've never bought a powerball ticket before.

Money can't buy happiness.

But it can shield you from the million little hassles and stresses that make many other people miserable.

well, the powerball site is overloaded and i don't have tv so didn't see the drawing. guess i'll have to wait to get excited about winning.

5, 23, 16, 22, 23, 29 and powerball 6.

Do you win anything for getting zero out of 7?
posted by Egg Shen 28 November | 23:33
No win here :(
