Most likely. The water and the boat should be sufficient to absorb the shrapnel, and those cans, even full, would have to fly further and faster from a lethal concussion.
Actually, a lot of the big SuperPac money went to ensuring GOP/Wingnut control of the House of Representatives, and while most of the high-profile races went badly, they've had a net loss of ONE seat (with eight still undecided).
I agree that I don't see anything like the quality of campaigning by the Dems on the House side as I do when I look at the Obama campaign. And the results show that. Also, though Murray did well to improve on the Dem's Senate majority, in at lesst a couple of instances that was due to R candidates spontaneously self destructing with ridiculous statements about rape.
What was the name of the billionaire that spent hundreds of millions of dollars backing Republican house and senate candidates? You know the guy. The one who didn't back a single winner.
There's an article on CBS describing how Romney and his campaign didn't see this coming at all.
I get the feeling he had a tendency to fire people who didn't brown-nose properly, and intimidate people as well. He cut off his team's credit cards before they could even hail a cab home.
That created a huge blind spot. His internals were skewed to fit turnout numbers based on assumptions rather than actual evidence. He was assuming, like a lot of other republicans, that Republican turnout would be higher than estimated by mainstream polls because of 2010, ignoring that many republicans have actually changed their identity to "Independent," while staying just as if not more conservative. He was campaigning in Pennsylvennia so late when polls showed he wasn't going to get it because he thought the other swing states were a lock and he could boost his score.
I feel bad for the guy getting so disappointed and being so ill-prepared for it, but it's scary to see a guy who works against seeing the world clearly get so close to being president.
I feel not an iota of sympathy for Romney, the Republicans or any of their homophobic, racist, classicist ilk. May they suffer as many of us did through the Bush years, Senior and Junior. The only difference is that they will still benefit from the president that they so clearly hate.
Hey, watch what you say. Classicism begat the Enlightenment, along with many other wonderful traditions.
Republicans admire the bloodthirsty thuggery of Sparta and the iron fist of Caesar, not the practical philosophies of Athens and the civic virtues of the Roman republic.
Reading on MeFi about Project Orca, which they were counting on to deliver the win, and didn't. Interesting read, and you can Google/search Twitter for more

I bet you're right. And it's bad management, and bad leadership, to create a climate where you can't say "but I see a problem."
Not only happy because Obama is a good President. I'm also happy because we dodged a bullet. This guy did not have the skills to listen to information, make informed decisions, and talk on the red phone.
