Macbook battery question! [More:]
So for a while now, off and on, my Macbook (white plastic 13" from 2008, running 10.5) has the battery icon showing X and saying "no batteries available" and the power cord thingie shows green when it should be red. So I got a new battery and installed it, trying to extend my laptop's life, but it STILL shows the X!!

I don't know what this means, what should I do, can it be fixed?
You may need to re-set the System Management Controller.
• Shut down the computer.
• Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
• Remove the battery.
• Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
• Release the power button.
• Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
• Press the power button to turn on the computer.

Could also be a short in your adapter.

I don't think it's the adapter--it shows the X sometimes when it's not plugged in too.
