What was good about today? My answer: I saved a marriage. [More:]

It started when my boyfriend and I were coming home from brunch today. I noticed that on the curb in front of my apartment building, there was a fancy double Maclaren stroller by the curb next to the streetlamp. A small child's jacket was on the right side seat (and not the left as I mentioned on Twitter). There was a car parked next to the streetlamp, but no one obviously waiting near the car or the stroller.

My boyfriend and I went inside, and when I came out an hour or two later to go get groceries, the stroller was still there. An hour and one trip to Trader's Joe's later, it was still there, and now it was drizzling.

After dinner was cooked and we gathered up all the trash to put out tonight (for tomorrow morning is when the trash and recyclables get picked up), the stroller was still there but the car was gone. I looked in the seat, the jacket was still there, and everything had been rained on. I noticed there was a luggage tag on the right-most handle, and a name, an address, a phone number, and an email address.

So, I did what any person would do: I called and left a voicemail, Facebook message'd, and emailed. And because I'm a nosy so-and-so, I also did a Google search and found that the person had been quoted in an article about the terrible metal playground items at Brooklyn Bridge Park. And I also know approximately how much an apartment in their condo building goes for; believe me, even if they could probably have afforded to replace this stroller, they also probably wouldn't have wanted to.

Not twelve minutes after I called the phone number, I got a call back from the person stating that her husband had been at the shop across the street, had bundled the kids into the car, and left the stroller outside the car on accident. She was so glad that I called because indeed, she had an extra stroller, but replacing this one would have been a pain. And she's going to come by tomorrow to get it.

This is the second time I've "saved a marriage" by reuniting lost items with their owners and I feel damn good about it.

What made you feel good about today?
I hiked down into Bryce Canyon and back. It was beautiful. Then I drove us back to Salt Lake City in the falling dark without hitting any deer, which is more prideworthy than it may sound because it took a lot of alertness and split second reactions.

My lovely aunts took me out for a pedicure and now my toes are metallic midnight blue, which makes me happy. Plus, it was the most relaxing pedicure ever, possibly due to the fish tank filled with fancy goldfish directly in front of the pedicure chair.

I managed to get through my father in law's 75th birthday weekend without my introverted ass having a full-on freak-out. At one point, there were 70-80 people at the actual party itself, and I hid upstairs playing Mickey Mouse Playhouse games on my ipad with my nephew instead of facing the crowds. It was a great strategy to manage my people-induced anxiety, and kept my four year old nephew entertained (leaving his parents free to socialize) to boot! Go me!

I met with HR this morning and was told there is no guarantee they'll save my job for the four weeks I'll be out due to surgery; however, it was possible in this instance since someone else may be able to cover part of my duties. So, no promises but at least I wasn't fired on the spot.

I ran 7 miles in 60 mins! (okay that was yesterday but still)

There was a perfect-for-me job posted at NARA but on the College Park campus (so it's only a 15-20 minute commute!) and I was able to apply to it.

However, my father emailed me after I had applied and said he wanted to tweak my resume for it. Oh well, too late.

I just went to the giant new Goodwill store here in town, and I brought home much less than I took with me to donate. That's some kind of triumph for anticonsumerism, I think.

My pants size has gone down, but my shirt size has gone up. I still need to lose 50 pounds though. That's like 6 gallons of water, or imagine a stack of 50 boxes of butter.

I was taken for afternoon tea at The Four Seasons Hotel - a treat for long-service employees all paid for by the boss. It was wonderful.

I'm sticking with Eat for Life eating (which is surprisingly easy and delicious and filled with variety) and despite an exercise-free weekend (ack! Why does coming back from a trip always eat up so much time?) am down another half pound at the end of it. I also feel energized and healthy. Good trends and I'm feeling pretty happy about them.

However, I am envious of your speedy time, Whelk! I'm much slower than you are to cover 7 miles.

Oh man coming back from a trip just eats into any enthusiasm for moving around.

I've got an insanely long gait (yay! legs) and I had superhero movie soundtracks blasting in my ear.

More constructive: I've been making the arrangements for a memorial for the poet who died.

Ok, jealous of your long(er) legs too, The Whelk. I have short little "petite" legs, but still want to know what soundtracks as music makes me move.

Brujita, that is hard. My sympathy.
