I hiked down into Bryce Canyon and back. It was beautiful. Then I drove us back to Salt Lake City in the falling dark without hitting any deer, which is more prideworthy than it may sound because it took a lot of alertness and split second reactions.

My lovely aunts took me out for a pedicure and now my toes are metallic midnight blue, which makes me happy. Plus, it was the most relaxing pedicure ever, possibly due to the fish tank filled with fancy goldfish directly in front of the pedicure chair.

I managed to get through my father in law's 75th birthday weekend without my introverted ass having a full-on freak-out. At one point, there were 70-80 people at the actual party itself, and I hid upstairs playing Mickey Mouse Playhouse games on my ipad with my nephew instead of facing the crowds. It was a great strategy to manage my people-induced anxiety, and kept my four year old nephew entertained (leaving his parents free to socialize) to boot! Go me!

I met with HR this morning and was told there is no guarantee they'll save my job for the four weeks I'll be out due to surgery; however, it was possible in this instance since someone else may be able to cover part of my duties. So, no promises but at least I wasn't fired on the spot.

There was a perfect-for-me job posted at NARA but on the College Park campus (so it's only a 15-20 minute commute!) and I was able to apply to it.

However, my father emailed me after I had applied and said he wanted to tweak my resume for it. Oh well, too late.

I just went to the giant new Goodwill store here in town, and I brought home much less than I took with me to donate. That's some kind of triumph for anticonsumerism, I think.

My pants size has gone down, but my shirt size has gone up. I still need to lose 50 pounds though. That's like 6 gallons of water, or imagine a stack of 50 boxes of butter.

I'm sticking with Eat for Life eating (which is surprisingly easy and delicious and filled with variety) and despite an exercise-free weekend (ack! Why does coming back from a trip always eat up so much time?) am down another half pound at the end of it. I also feel energized and healthy. Good trends and I'm feeling pretty happy about them.

However, I am envious of your speedy time, Whelk! I'm much slower than you are to cover 7 miles.

Oh man coming back from a trip just eats into any enthusiasm for moving around.

I've got an insanely long gait (yay! legs) and I had superhero movie soundtracks blasting in my ear.

Ok, jealous of your long(er) legs too, The Whelk. I have short little "petite" legs, but still want to know what soundtracks as music makes me move.

Brujita, that is hard. My sympathy.
