Wow. That's crazy. Here's some further explanation from a Hyena conservation group.

Thanks for posting this, gaspode. I'm taking Animal Repro this semester, and while it's focused strictly on Ag species, the various specifics of each unique animal (both male and female) are pretty fascinating.

I've never been fond of hyenas, but now I have a lot of sympathy for them - ouch.
