Unusual things to make with buttermilk? I have a lot left over, I know pancakes and fried chicken, what else is there?
A ton of cakes use buttermilk as both the main liquid and the acid to activate rising. It lends a great depth of flavor. Just use "buttermilk cake" as a google term.
I kneaded them a little too much and pressed them too flat so they came out kinda hockey pucky but still full of biscuity goodness. I've got more left over! Gonna make bread products!
Don't know how unusual you're looking for, but it's a pretty common ingredient in a lot of Indian (particularly South Indian) cuisine. Try Googling 'mooru' or 'majjige' (those terms will turn up the most authentic recipes, but you could also try 'buttermilk' and 'Indian') if you're interested. Or just go to Pongal on 28th and Lex and try a glass to see if you like it.
