Beasts of the Southern Wild finally made it to my little burg. . .spoilers, maybe [More:]I had an experience that I have had only once at the movies. I got nauseated and had to have my eyes closed through a lot of the film. It felt like I was on an amusement ride that my middle ears did not enjoy.

It could have been the subject matter, the random filth and dead animal parts, or the intense relationships, but I think it was more the hand-held camera motion.

I had that experience with Rachel Getting Married, which also was shot mostly with hand-held cameras.

I am sorry that I missed a lot of it. An extraordinary movie!

Has anyone seen it, and what are your reactions?
sounds gross

It is gross, if one is not used to that sort of stuff. But the filmmakers take us into that chaotic world and you can see the internal logic of their lives, and why they live that way.

AUROCHS ARE CATTLE, NOT SWINE!

Like Malick's work, it's more about visuals than plot.

BotSW didn't make me seasick, but The Wrestler did.

I thought the film was really well done, aurochs notwithstanding.
Glad I saw it in the theater for the landscape shots.
I didn't get sick but I did have to turn away for some of the more visceral parts.
Mostly I was impressed at the plausibility of the scenario I guess and the believability of the human response and reactions to the situation.
