Food food food. I have had a lot of good food over the last few days. What good food have you eaten lately?
I have had:
Friday - Chicago deep-dish pizza with cornmeal crust
Saturday - AWESOME Italian grilled octopus and penne alla Vodka and tiramisu
Sunday - Pulled pork sandwiches with blue cheese coleslaw
Monday - ditto (leftovers)
A church friend made us a chicken broccoli cheesy frozen dish that we've been eating the past few days. Mmmmmmmmm. I have a few crockpot meals I'll be making over the next few days- italian creamy chicken tomorrow, pot roast Thursday. Dad comes to town on Saturday; I'm sure he'll want to eat out constantly, hope I have the energy to keep up.
Went to my local pizza place that puts some of the strangest toppings on an American slice and had chicken cordon bleu pizza, which was quite good. The eggplant parmesan slice was OK. One of their usual varieties is chicken bacon ranch, which is awesome.
Friday - outstanding chicken stuffed eggplant in teriyaki sauce at a bland-looking mall joint.
Sunday - great agedashi tofu at a completely different hole in the wall.
Monday - made karaage chicken and I think I've finally got it perfect. Mmmm...JFC for the win!
My salad tonight was butter lettuce with pico de gallo, sour cream and shredded sharp cheddar. That bit of cheese is what allows you to pile on all pico de gallo you can stand.
Oh man, funny you should ask. I just got back from a visit to NJ for my high school reunion and family visiting, and while there I ate my head off - my favorite bagels in the world, fantastic NJ pizza margherita, Schickhaus hot dogs from the best place ever, ice cream soda, BLT with fresh Jersey tomatoes...everything was delicious.

That's the stuff I had the first time I was allergic to broccoli; my family was sick and a church friend made it for us. I was vomiting sick for several days. Figured it was a fluke but next time I had broccoli, same thing. Now I don't touch the stuff.
Today: beef burrito verde, guacamole. I may be somewhat allergic to tomatillos or anything that high in vitamin c, like kiwis.
Yesterday: rare filet on onion roll, deep fried chicken livers in sauce.
Before: minted peas in european butter and something else I can't remember, but man, that was a lot of peas.
I had a venison cheeseburger yesterday and the day before - I'd had friends over for a barbecue for the Olympic ceremony on Friday and so made good use of the leftovers. I still have a ton of leftover potato salad in the fridge :-)
I need to get back on my low-carb diet at some point in the very near future. After I've eaten all the potato salad.
I've been making Posh Omelette a.k.a. frittata/tortilla about once a week recently - for 2 people, this involves 5 eggs, a green pepper, an onion, any other veg I have to hand, a couple of handfuls of sliced chorizo, a couple of chopped boiled potatoes, some feta/cheddar/Lancashire cheese on top. It's good, and fairly low-carb.
Omelet with broccoli (sorry, Doohickie!) and cheddar and sourdough toast. A huge pile of green beans, blanched and then toasted in a pan with some slivered almonds. Black beans cooked with onions, a good glug of salsa, and lots of cumin, then wrapped up in a tortilla. STRAWBERRIES OH WOW. A basil-mint cornmeal Bundt cake filled with tiny little local strawberries smaller than my fingertip. Baba ghanoush dark with roasting and flecked with green parsley, so good I kept asking "WHO MADE THIS BABA GHANOUSH*, YUM" as I scooped it into my mouth.
Elsa, ha! I tend to proclaim, "You know what's good? THIS!" when eating yummy stuff I've made. Or yummy stuff I've not made. Yummy stuff in general, really.
The other day I didn't feel like going to the store but I didn't have any vegetables so I went on a pantry raid. First I threw some niboshi (dried baby sardines) in a pot of water and simmered them for a bit. Then I tossed in some dried shrimp, dried crab, dried shrimp paste, and wakame, funori, and hijiki seaweed. Then I remembered a tilapia fillet in the freezer, so cut that to pieces and tossed it in.
Oh, and meanwhile I boiled some water for udon noodles.
After tasting the soup I decided to add a tiny bit of shiro-dashi bonito broth, soy sauce, and mild sesame oil, and then some miso paste (I use a light brown organic variety from Japan). Finally I added some chirimen-jako (whitebait).
After straining my udon I added them to a bowl along with some tororo-konbu seaweed, hichimi chili powder, and ground black and white sesame.
For a "nothing in the fridge" meal, it was quite tasty. Like drinking a spicy hot aquarium (shrimp! crabs! three different sizes of fish! four different types of seaweed!), with noodles!
Just made black bean and corn quesadillas. Oh em gee so good. Especially with guacamole and sour cream and salsa. And margaritas. Did I mention oh em gee? Seriously. Good. And easy!
occhiblu, we might be on the same wavelength. After a busy day, last evening The Fella and I flopped onto the sofa and tried to decide what to have for dinner. I pointed out that I had some leftover sweet potato filling from a vegan empanada recipe. "How about sweet potato, black bean, and spinach quesadillas? It would only take a few minutes."
His response: "That sounds like, well, THE BEST THING EVER."
Baby back ribs, breaded boneless wings, philly steak flatbread, rare burger and fries. Can you tell the theme is protein?
Vomiting day and night can make a girl hungry.
