What Superpower Do You Have in Dreams? After yet another dream in which I was able to[More:] lift the vehicle I was driving over or around some obstacle (up stairs, over walls or high curbs, over streams, etc.) it finally occurred to me that in my dreams, this happens quite often, and I have never really reflected on it, either in dreams or awake.

But I would classify it as a superpower, in that I would not even try to do it in my waking life.

What do you do in dreams that is routine, in context, but impossible in waking life?
Flying! Always flying.

Survive fire. Sometimes I'll dream about a huge fire burning down the building I'm in (often a cherished childhood building, like my old friend's house or something), and it feels warm but I'm actually able to walk through the fire and not be injured by it.

I surf down stairs, never up stairs or across flat land, but when going down stairs I just step out and ride air all the way down.

I don't necessarily dream about flying, but I have occasional dreams where I am bouncing as if the ground is very, very sproingy. Or I can sort of push off surfaces to hover.

So I got that goin' for me.

The abillity to travel back in time and redo the scene. Boy, I'd really like that one in real life.

I frequently do this superfast skating/skiing while walking. I'm so fast I can keep up with cars on freeways. I also usually want to stop at some point and that's very difficult to do.

I also fly once in a while, but that's rare.

In a word: All of them.

Those of you who fly: When you fly, how do you fly?

Methods I've used:
1. Superman - Straight up whizzing around; look/think somewhere and you're headed off in that direction
2. Bird - Flap your arms/wings, there's a sensation of rising and falling with each beat
3. Jet (like Cannonball from Marvel Comics) - differs from Superman in that you're being propelled from the back. Rocket boots or some kind of thrust. Steer with your legs, as opposed to Superman, which is more head/upper-body driven.
4. Lighter-than-air (Human Torch) - This is accompanied by that sort of sinking (actually rising) pit-of-your-stomach feeling that is often found on amusement park rides or anywhere where there's (what feels like) negative/upward force on you. Able to waft/drift, almost like a balloon.

(There's also the sort of "evil Superman" flight where you are in an upright/vertical/standing position while you fly and/or hover, toes pointed toward the ground. So called because I feel like it's usually reserved for 'evil' versions of Superman, and he's usually blasting out a constant beam of heat-vision when he does it.)

Though I suppose that's a sort of levitation/hovering (which are not necessarily the same, and opinions differ on whether or not they're true flight (depends on your definition). Levitation I think of as like lighter-than-air, but with 'intertial dampeners'; you don't feel abnormal, you're just transposed a few feet (rarely, much higher than that) above the ground on the y-axis. Hovering is like levitation, except you never get more than just a few feet off the ground. And whereas with levitation, you can move in any direction, hovering is more like a hot-air balloon; start flapping your arms like Charlie Bucket or you're at the mercy of air currents.

Those are the ones I can think of. If I remember any others, I'll add them later.

BLAH BLAH BLAH LUCID DREAMING I'll shut up now.

How do I fly? It just happens, like when I think about walking in real life and my body moves. I think, I go up. I can move my arms but I'm not flapping; more like getting comfortable in the air.

I am able to resurrect myself. I had one of those dreams just a couple of days ago - I got shot (long story) and died, and then I just willed myself back to life.

It's quite handy.

I've only flown in dreams a couple times, but generally I have to basically swim through the dream air. Not soar, but like, breaststroke.

When I fly I rarely fly very high. Usually I'll be able to fly a few stories up but it gets harder the higher I go. And if I'm on a roof or high up I usually can't fly off of it and down. I'm always afraid I'll forget how to fly. But when I can do the Superman high flight thing it's wonderful.

I also have these dreams where I'll surprise someone by grabbing them and lifting them off the ground. Yeah I have a super power and I use it to impress people with how cool I am.

My other dreams are not to be spoke of. Trust me.

Bounce! Just like Madamina. I thought I was the only one who could bounce and float. Those are the best dreams - I feel euphoric for a few days after one of those. In the most recent version, it cost a dime and I was begging dimes from people to keep soaring.

I jump once and I'm flying. I steer with my upper body, like Superman.
posted by deborah 18 July | 20:20
I don't fly, but I can jump and it takes a very long time to come down, at which point I can just jump again.

I float up to just beneath the ceiling and just hover there comfortably.

My other superpower, which I only employ when things aren't going so well, is waking up.

I don't know about traditional superpowers, but I had a dream a couple of hours ago where I suddenly decided to go to Burning Man. The part where I called in to collect Orange Swan on the way and we went together, though, that would be some kind of superpower in my eyes.
