Gorilla flips off photographer. Please note that she is using the west coast bird as apposed to the east coast version. Appropriate since she is a Western Lowland Gorilla. Which version of the bird do you flip?
As for myself, I use the west coast version that the gorilla demonstrates so well.

I was unaware there were east & west coast flip styles. Please to enlighten me?

West coast, which is where I grew up! But I didn't know that the difference had to do with where you grew up.

Flipping the bird was one of my Photo Friday suggestions. I don't think it's come up (ha!) yet.

Could some birdwatcher enlighten me and chewatadistance as to the differences?

It's something a friend and I have discussed, and it's just our theory that it's an east versus west thing, but it could be a coordination thing. If you look at the photo of the gorilla, she clearly has the fingers either side of the middle finger forward of it. That's the western mode. The eastern mode the side fingers do not go forward of the middle finger.

That makes me very Eastern. Thanks.
