Strutts Health Vest Cotton I came across this vintage knitting pattern this morning. This is not one of the vintage knitting patterns you drool over and want to make. This is one you must just view in proper historical context: as the perfect thing for a miserable, Valium-addicted housewife to make her closeted gay husband.
Oh my goodness.

What on earth do they mean by "Health"?

I can't find a single thing not to love about that photo.

Now this, people, is the kind of vintage pattern you drool over. Just utter perfection.

That line in his forehead above his left eye hints at his terror, that he's about to twist half his cheek off into his Norelco.

Can somebody explain to me why British men seem to wear these net vests while American ones wear at the very least solid A-shirts (*cough* wifebeaters) or just plain t-shirt undershirts?

My experience with British men isn't that extensive, Madamina, but I suspect your impression is a bit out of date - certainly those I know well enough to understand their underwear habits (who are all under 45) wear plain or T-shirt vests.

Actually, so does my dad, who is nearer 70. And now the whole internet knows :)
