A Bevy of Swans Thought you all might like to see this
cross-stitched swan cushion I finished last night. You might also like to have a look at my
collection of swan stuff that I've been building for several years now and see I've never posted.

Five and a half years ago when I bought my house and named it Swan's End, a friend of mine warned me not to tell too many people because "everyone would start giving me all kinds of swan crap, and most swan stuff is tacky". She was right. Generally when I see any swan items in a thrift shop I leave them there because they're horrible. Pink ceramic swan figurines from the 80s and those horrible plastic planters and so forth. But occasionally I find something very appealing. I've made a rule that before I buy anything I have to figure out how I'm going to use it and where I'm going to put it, and I also limit my swans count to just a few to each room in my house. These rules, with the difficulty of finding good swan stuff, have helped to keep my collection relatively small and hopefully interesting. I don't want my collection to get like Christine Taylor's character's
unicorn collection in
Dodgeball.
