Los Angeles in the 1940s- beautiful photos by Ansel Adams.
Neat. Hey, LA had an incline(funicular)? Is it still there?

Love these. Also love these photos of black cat auditions I spotted on the sidebar there.

Wow. I remember seeing a lot of these scenes when I was a kid. There are still parts of LA that I absolutely love.

Yep.

The Children's Paradise name looks to be a bit optimistic.

Gorgeous yet gritty, like the best film noir movies.

I always love seeing pictures of the Brown Derby. It's just so preposterous yet so cool.

Those car lots make me yearn.

I would really love to know more about the sign that begins "I speak for a patient, persistent, intelligent, long-range attitude toward peace" and has other words too small for me to read. No help from Google really.

I spy, in the far distance in this photo, the Griffith Observatory.

I was trying to read the words on the sign and saw the Observatory in the distance. The "bell" to the right and slightly in front of the sign is probably one of the signs indicating El Camino Real.

And so ends your California history lesson.

I always have trouble wrapping my head around knowing that LA is a big city and the pictures I see of it that seldom look very urban.

Except for downtown it's a collection of suburbs...but one could say that of PGH as well.
