Mister Rogers Remixed: Garden Of Your Mind. This is just beautiful. It samples shows that aired long after I watched him in the 70s, but it's a wonderful capsule of his philosophy which he tried to pass on to the children watching his show. I know I for one would not be who I am today without Fred Rogers.[More:]

I didn't know it till I was an adult, but Rogers made an impassioned speech to Congress in 1969 in defense of public broadcasting in America. Just watching it brings tears to my eyes, and makes me think, "This is the country we were supposed to be."
And I love the emotion behind this tweet, which led me to the video... even though I don't believe in gods, I feel this.

We've been grooving on that video at our house too. It's touching. MR R. is one of the reasons I haven't yet given up hope for humanity.

I found his response to RFK's assassination yesterday...I'd been searching for a while.

I miss Fred. Sad that I never ran into him, I lived pretty close to him for years and he walked to work often at the 'QED studios. I have have met a lot of people who had met him and as far as I've heard, he was exactly the same in person as he was in public. Fred was Fred.

I was forbidden to watch Mr Rogers as a child. Mum thought he was too creepy, but I still watched him when I'd go over to friend's houses. One of my first big musical impressions of Jazz was the the amazing piano work of Jonny Costa, who riffed whenever Fred went out on an errand ot trip. Cool Stuff

octothorpe, the first time I ever went to Pittsburgh I was visiting a friend who lived in the Oakland area. I was struck by how much it looked like the little diorama model town at the beginning of Mister Rogers' show. :)

Also, man, I hope that little model town is in the Smithsonian or something now.
