Click and Clack to retire [More:]After 35 years, Tom and Ray have decided to close the doors on Car Talk this October.
But it will keep airing in reruns as long as the cars they talked about remain on the road.

They've earned it. Corny as they could be, I love those guys. They're smart and very self-aware. Peter Sagal perfectly described my feelings about them earlier today.

They were the first show I listened to on public radio back in the 80s. I have to say, though, public radio junkie that I am, I started changing the station when their show came on about the last 5 years or so. They pioneered a style and approach and were early celebrators of nerditude, but the show stopped changing and the humor sort of stagnated. I know that's exactly why some people loved it, but it just got tired...guessing the spelling of people's names, "can you make the sound," the wife jokes, etc. Still, it's the end of an era, and they have done yeoman's work for public radio and given a lot of people a lot of enjoyment, so I'm spilling a little 40.
