never go into a movie with high expectations (no spoilers) [More:]

Need I even say which movie? It was spectacular looking though, will give it that. Probably pretty impressive in 3D too.
Well, that's disappointing news (though not entirely unexpected).

I'm kind of bummed to hear the reviews, but maybe that'll lower my expectations enough that when I get around to seeing it, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

We are talking about "What to Expect When You're Expecting", right???

So you didn't like Moonrise Kingdom?

I gave up on him many movies ago. He just isn't hungry enough any more, and he forgot that story must come before FX. That seems to be the problem once again.

I think Moonrise Kingdom has the potential to be the first Wes Anderson movie I like--another high concept director whose storytelling falls short.

It works as a spectacle and I think there was a fantastic movie hidden in there somewhere, they just lost it at some point. It raises more questions than it answers and lacks focus.
It raises more questions than it answers...

So...It sets-up yet more sequels?

In an extremely obvious way. But most of the questions do not set up anything, you need some mystery but this movie just shows you so many things and you are left wondering what the point of it all was.
Well, dang.

My brief take here. Someone posted an elaborate spoiler-filled defence here.

Moonrise Kingdom was good though.

Handled correctly, ambiguity in film makes a statement. From what I have gathered from reviews, the ambiguity here owes more to what was left on the cutting room floor. I may see it if my budget permits, but since I have only seen the very first one (life got in the way of seeing the rest), I won't feel I am missing something if I don't see it.
