The Great Gatsby, Reloaded 2012 Oh dear. Visually it looks great, but the music is all wrong, and I don't know about the casting... Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby? Jay Gatsby's supposed to be coolly elegant, and Leo just looks greasy and simian.
It took about half a millisecond to peg this as a Luhrmann film.

And agreed: DiCrappio looks terrible as Gatsby. What's with the constant sweat?

Ah, the greasy, simian Italian. Classic.

The music's just for the trailer. They probably haven't even written the score yet.

Fro a story at least partly about the seduction of wealth and style then it has to look good and damn the production design looks good. Several shots seem to be direct copies of Erte' paintings, which is perfect.

As with all baz Lurhrmann I am going to buy so many making of and concept art books about the production and maybe see the movie once.

The Whelk, are you a Strictly Ballroom fan as well?

That's the only one I can never seem to finish! I swear I will one day but the disc just gathers dust. I'm a bad Lurhmann fan admittedly (AUSTRALIA was just unwatchable)

I like it. sharing

That is not how I imagined DiCaprio as Gatsby, but then, I thought Redford's portrayal lacked any grit whatsoever.

It looks like stepping into the book. And I'm a Leo fan. He is gorgeous, sleek, and otherwise a great fit IMHO. Perchance too bright because Jay Gatsby is not so much, but otherwise he looks like a great choice.

It looks a bit overstylized for my taste, but, yeah, Gatsby should be a bit gritty, being a bootlegger and all.

I haven't read the book sadly, but have heard about it since forever, and well--this film does have Carey (Shame) Mulligan in it--so I'm definitely going to see it.
