Continuing with the birthday theme... Think about your last milestone birthday (for any given definition of milestone). What were you doing? Who were you with? Was it fun?
Actually this year was a milestone. I turned 40 on May 5. I spent the day with loved ones. We got dressed up and went out for a fancy dinner and drank champagne.

Forty was my last milestone. Had a party at the house we lived in at the time and had a big crowd of people over for beer and BBQ. My birthday is at the beginning of July so it's usually in a holiday weekend.

My last milestone birthday was my 50th, 3 years ago. I spent the day with my then-boo, at the Bronx Zoo. The day after I had a picnic with dear friends in Central Park. It was wonderful.

I think that was the year I had shingles.

For my 40th birthday, I went to a hotel in Florida on the beach, the theory being that I would feel better about being 40 if I could walk in the sand. The hotel has since been destroyed by a hurricane.

I suppose my last big milestone was 21. It was low-key; I had to look it up in my blog to remember what I did. I got a pina~colada at Dallas BBQ with friends, and my parents got me a ticket to Wicked. A few days later, another recently 21 friend and I walked around the village, going in and out of bars just because we could.

40 -- almost six years ago -- the year I had my gall bladder out and got married. Momentous indeed.

I....huh I don't really do birthdays so I don't really remember my own. I've been to some amazing birthday parties, but none of my own.

Hoping to have the new porch put on the house and have the patio built in time for my fiftieth in '14. I'll have a big outdoor party.

I spent it with MeFites. =D

[This year's is tentatively June 9th, mark your calendars.]

I turn 100000 this year. That's a nice round number. In binary (hex, too).

I consider this past birthday (36) to be a milestone, because that's the day we decided to go off of birth control, and a month later I was pregnant!

I turned 30 and then six weeks later the mister turned 40, so we had a low-key 70th birthday party between the two dates.

I turned 60 a year or so ago. My Daughter turned 21 a week later.

So we had a joint party for those milestones, except no joints.

Easy, it was right here, 4 years ago... I was on the computer, seeing these birthday wishes form themselves, and you all were out there--somewhere over the rainbow.

It was great!

I'm not sure what happened on my 25th birthday. I'm checking my LJ and didn't see much (and there's no entry on that date that would make sense). However, 10/7/09 has mentions of getting into WSU, starting work on Roland Park, and starting a new bellydance class session.

For my 40th I refused to get out of bed, even when my husband told me my family had sent enormous bouquets of flowers and cards and that he wanted to take me out to dinner.

Fortunately, it has actually all been uphill from there.

That would have been my 40th and 45th (if you count the "fives") and there wasn't anything exciting for either of them. This disappoints me.

I went to Le Bernadin and had my best experience at a NYC restaurant.

For my 45th, last year, I got into an argument with my mother over my birthday brunch (she'd insisted I make it convenient for my brother to attend as we live an hour apart, and I was running a little late). It was one of the first times (yes, at my age) that I ever yelled back and stood my ground with my mom. So that was a milestone in itself.

For my 30th in '07, I brought a house :)

Oh wait, that should have been '08. I'm so tired I can't even remember my birth year ....

I threw a party for myself at 40. It was about having lanterns and a firepit in the backyard, and grilling Thai satay. It was fun, and an interesting mix of different people, but downsides were that the mosquitos were vicious and drove us all inside, quelling my dream of a beautiful outdoor night party. We did do sparklers, though. And I had satay and beer for days afterward.

I had a huge party for my 40th. It was a lot of fun: the "theme" was Ernest Hemingway and Cuba which somehow translated to roasting a whole goat in a big pit out in the backyard. I put grass skirts on the dogs on the theory that tropical is tropical and we drank mojitos. Lots of mojitos. And a keg of good beer, I think. A bunch of people I hadn't seen since college showed up - and there were like 70 people there at the height, I think. No, I didn't know them all. Hee! The cops came three times (the neighbors were not keen on all the extra cars around and then by like 2 they were complaining about noise, understandably) so you know it was a good party. Except it got cold around midnight and I started loaning people sweaters which they mostly never returned, grr.

My last birthday was 50. I think I mowed the lawns or something.

We, uhm... I went to work, and.. uh... I think we may have gone for a bike ride on that day or the day after. 40 was no big deal. I'm healthier and happier than I was 5 years ago, living where I want to live and generally satisfied with life. I guess that counts for a lot.

I had a fantastic last-round-birthday. All huge group of friends flew in and surprised me and we ran around Portland and did good things, followed by a night at the coast (including an incredible cliff-top ocean view brunch).

Then the following weekend my sister flew out and we ran around Portland and did good things, followed by a swanky night on the coast that ended up with a long morning spa.

Given that my suggestion for my birthday was a nice dinner somewhere, all that was really touching and lovely.
