Really crazy Sunday... [More:]So, yesterday, I discover that my water softener is full of standing water almost to the top. After draining it, I find that the resin tank has a big crack in it that's leaking water into the salt tank and, thus, the deep water. Time for a new softener. Oh joy.

Then, about an hour after I discover the softener problem, my AC decides to pack it in. $$$$

So...How does one dispose of a used water softener?
No idea. . .

What area do you live in, that you need to soften your water?

East-central Indiana. I'm on a well. Water around here is very hard.

The contractor-person that replaces the unit will probably know and have access to the disposal of it. Unless you're doing the work yourself. In that case, I'd just call my local land-fill/transfer station. They would know. If all else fails, maybe the seller would know?

Good luck. Had I won the lottery this week, but I did not, AGAIN, I would take care of it all for you.

Yeah, I did it myself. The salesdroid didn't know where to take the old one. Guess I'll call around.
Thanks, all.

Does your municipality have a city dump?

No. I think the nearest landfill is over in the next county.

Called around and finally asked a water softener store if they knew where I could dump my old unit. I figured surely they had to junk old softeners. They guy invited me to just haul to their backdoor and leave it there. They have a guy come around once a week and take their junk.

Problem solved!

Tomorrow, the AC guy comes out. Gonna be an expensive day, that.

Or not.
The AC guy replaced the fan motor and a run capacitor. That's it! Got away relatively cheap! I was certain I'd have to replace the whole unit or something.

Yay!
