What a Crock! No really. What can I use my crock for? I got a stoneware crock at a yard sale with a matching lid. Something like this. I was very excited to use it in making homemade vinegar, a new project. But...[More:]just a few hours after I put my wine in there, I noticed wine leaking slowly from a tiny hairline crack in the crock. So I can't use it for anything liquid. It's a nice crock, so I don't want to get rid of it, yet I also despise non-utilitarian home decor -- I just don't want things around that don't have a purpose. So what ideas would you have for using a crock like this? Especially ideas that involve using the lid, because since I already have a semi-useless crock I don't also want a completely useless lid.

Here's what I came up with so far:

-worm composting
-magazine holder
-potting soil mixing vat
- ??
Cookie jar?
Storing individual tea bags?

How big is it?

Coincidentally, today was the last day for the newspaper comic strip "Crock", which always was mostly useless.

Fix it!

fill it with milk and simmer it for about an hour. The caisin in the milk may seal the crack.

Bread box? I use apothecary jars as breadboxes but an ever-so-slight crack would actually make them work better by letting out a tiny gasp of moisture to keep the bread from molding.

Or, if you already have a bread box and cookie jar, use it to hold opened [boxes of crackers/bags of pretzels]. They keep much crispier if they're in a closed container.

I am fascinated to hear that milk could seal the crack!

It's a 5 gallon crock. It's fairly big.

fill it with milk and simmer it for about an hour. The caisin in the milk may seal the crack.

Now that's the kind of inventive, knowledge-based solution you don't find just anywhere.
