omg kitty! we are getting our Very Spoiled Cat a new cat for his (un)birthday, probably whether he wants one or not. →[More:]

hi bunnies, sorry I've not been around much of late, lots going on!

I'm excited and a little bit nervous. New cat intros can be a super PITA and I'm hoping this goes well. But it's probably inevitable since the mister and I both just fell in love with this poor, skinny, shivering little ball of fur we found at the Humane Society today.

Our Very Spoiled Kitty, Marlowe, was fostered with another cat before he came to us, and he recently spent the entire month while we were remodeling our house peacefully co-existing with another cat well, peaceful and apologetic and "please-won't-you-be-friends" displays of submissiveness and outreach on his behalf, but tbh some hissing and batting and standoffishness and "WTF?!" on part of Other Cat, who is a bitchy hyper little tortie Onlycat, who's used to being Queen of All She Surveys, but by the end they were playing happily, and as usual I digress.

Ever since coming home from temp housing and getting acquainted with Othercat, our Marlowe's been even more meowy and needy and bored than usual, despite being able to JUST FUCKING GO OUTSIDE ALREADY you've got a lovely specially-fenced backyard and jesus, please, stop the meowing!

So we thought maybe part of the solution would be to get him a buddy. Only I didn't think it would be this easy.

So I've linked to New Kitty's adoption page at the Boulder HS, and we will bring him home tonight to start the long, careful process of introduction (he will go into the guest room pronto for sequestering, with his own food/litterbox/etc.)

He is a lovely, quiet, friendly little lapcat with a huge purr, and despite having yelling kids right outside, and screeching puppies down the hall he still made biscuits on my lap for FIVE STRAIGHT MINUTES after he settled in, without even attempting to escape. So starved for affection it almost made me cry. He was apparently re-homed from "an overwhelmed private no-kill shelter" which makes me think he was just maybe property of some poor crazy cat person/people who got their pets taken away but did the best they could.

His coat is in ghastly shape, he's skinny as a rail, he's probably not even as old as the 11 months the shelter vet claims he is (his paws are ENORMOUS for his size, and he's still got that gangly adolescent look about him) and he's also probably still sore and skittish from being neutered on the 1st, but he's otherwise healthy and bright-eyed, and, of course, he needs a name.

He does have the classic Birman dark blue eyes, socks and gold-flecked coat, so despite that I'm pretty cynical about the "purebred" part, it's always a possibility he's a reject from a kitten farm too.
