Gotta dirty it up a little. Here's the new car. This is the least-giddy photo :) Now we have to make it ours.[More:]So we drove it away from the owner, who said he had done a last check, only to find that he had left both his garage door opener AND his Pure Jerry Garcia Live '89 bootleg cd in the car. (When I texted him, he said he'd definitely need the garage door opener, but that we could keep the cd. "Jerry would have wanted it that way.")

Thus far, I have ordered a simple yet cryptic HENDERSON! bumper sticker (anyone else listen to Sklarbro Country?). What else should we do to give it that special Madamina and Mister mojo?

But WAY more importantly: what are your favorite songs for being in the car? (Pure Jerry just won't cut it.) Think highway driving, but also being stuck in traffic and having people hear what you're blasting.
Did you know that Subaru backwards spells U R A bus! Beautiful new ride - I hope it gives you many safe miles.

Highway Girl by the Tragically Hip (this link is actually a cover band; all the actual Hip videos of this song on Youtube include a weird rant in the middle)
42 Miles by Cross Canadian Ragweed
Hurtin Albertan by Corb Lund

...and despite these suggestions, I am not a Canadian fetishist. Cross Canadian Ragweed is from Oklahoma, I swear.

Lovely car! As far as car music goes, I think anything is fine as long as it's LOUD. My yardstick is that, if the rear vision mirror isn't vibrating, it's not loud enough. Particularly on Friday afternoons, I'm often stuck in traffic on the M1 and I make a point of opening up all the windows and cranking the stereo as loud as it will go (38/40 seems to be the limit, or it starts to distort a bit) to share the music. It's quite amusing to see people's reactions - older people (yeah, like me) often smile in recognition and I often see younger people listening with interest. It's my little contribution to keeping the classics alive. I drive a Subaru Liberty, so it might even have the same stereo as yours - it's actually pretty good for a standard car system.

Yay for Subarus! I have an '04 Outback Sport that's still kicking ass and taking names 116k miles later. Makes for an awesome dog car too.

I'm not a regular listener of Sklarboro Country, but I would catch the Henderson! reference if I saw a sticker in traffic.

I actually learned how to drive stick by cranking Led Zeppelin in my parents' station wagon. I'd be rocking out all over town, but if I stalled, the music would abruptly stop and I'd have to start it all up again. And again, in the beginning.

Teaching by humiliation.
