Question for California Bunnies Reading "Obsession" by Jonathan Kellerman,
who is an excellent writer, so....even though excellent writers are ALL about making stuff up, I'm wondering if he made this up:[More:]

In the passage I just read, he is watching
a squirrel snag a lemon off a tree. Do squirrels even LIKE lemons? I live in
the Pacific Northwest, where we have no shortage of squirrel behaviors to observe,
but lemon trees...not so much.
This squirrel seems to like 'em.

I'm skeptical. I'd buy that they eat lemon if you give it to them, but I've never seen a squirrel take a lemon off a tree in California... nor elsewhere.

They do. They also steal pears and do the same thing. They take one bite then toss it away.

I saw a squirrel eating (yes) a plastic cup lid earlier today.

I never properly thanked Ardiril for the wonderful link
to the squirrel eating the lemon. But I most certainly
meant to. :)
