I'm playing a lot of Fallout 3/NV recently and it's starting to colonize my brain
Which is largely manifesting in an increased desire to listen to atomic-age music and mentally outline the never going to happen Fallout: Empire State.
Since New York is conspicuously absent from the Fallout universe I assume the entire region is a smoking crater AND New York is a pretty cliche post-apocalyptic target BUT I did take a long walk today and kept thinking about how you do Fallout in New York. So here are those ideas.
Penn Station: Old one, it was never torn down in this universe. It can be ruined tho.
Grand Central Ruin: I just like the name, plus it missing it's iconic roof is a nice visual.
A Nightclub In A Subway Station: Cause c'mon.
The World Expo Site: Much bigger and more well-preserved, a complete 50s kitsch time capsule, there should be a quest to fix the monorail from Penn Station to Expo City, or something.
Rockefeller Center: Intact but deeply strange, no one has come in or out of the GE building in years. The X Y Z buildings behind it however are kind of leaning on each other like dominoes.
The Met: Has become the largest meat market on the East Coast. Many heads of Bahamian and Bighorns being sold daily. The statues and paintings are worse for wear.
Liberty Plaza: Slaver market.
Empire State Building: Broken in half with the mooring tower lying in the street forcing you to moor an airship at the Rock center.
Jefferson Market Library: The beautiful library has become a prison, which is what it used to be more it was a library.
Applied Cryogenics: Cause I'm not above a Futurama in-joke.
Riker's Island: A radical utopian colony that has cut ties with the larger city.
Lennox Wall: The improvised barrier that separated the wealthier and more intact Upper Manhattan from the rest of the city and protecting Columbia University and the re-activated Fort Tyron (the Cloisters are a military base, West Point is a smoking hole).
Gaudi's Skyscraper: Exists in this universe.
Cross Manhattan Expressway: Also exists in this universe cause Robert Moses would have totally gotten everything he wanted in a Fallout world.
Central Fields: From the DMZ comic, Central Park is a huge series of farms ruled by a feudal system and a King at the top who rules from the Dakota building.
Brooklyn Naval Yard: Obviously.
Downtown Brooklyn: Prosperous city-state on guard against the unruly and dangerous Lower Manhattan.
Plaza Hotel: Now a hospital and religious center for ...somebody.
Bushwick: Endless raider warehouses.
The 2nd Ave Subway: Exists, but every entrance is inaccessible.
Coney Island: Crazy sketchy old-style Coney island, with the historical Luna Park left in tact. This might be better as DLC, actually.
Greenwood Cemetery: Ghoul fortress, obviously.
Statue Of Liberty: the hand with the torch has gone missing, and instead of a book she carries a sword.
East River: Lower water levels have somewhat connects Manhattan and Long island, resulting in a few changes (Roosevelt Island is now Mt. Roosevelt.) and an entire "River" neighborhood living in the mud. It's not a nice place.
Inwood Park: Has gone wild and slowly re-taking the neighborhood.
Idlewilde Airport: Still has the pre-JFK name, is repurposed as something horrible.
I also want no less than two upstate DLCs. One for a college town and the other set in the shadowy ruins of Enclave-inhabited Thousand Island region mansions.
I hope and assume you are using FWE? EVE? Those are the two mission critical mods for me. If you want something different for your Megaton House I strongly recommend "Megaton Shack MB", this guy Meatbomb has done a really cool job with it!
If it's Fallout: Empire State and not Fallout: The Big Apple, you need to also include:
A large Enclave base at West Point. Or maybe they're sort of Outcasts from the Enclave who worship Kosciusko.
An AI living in Binghamton.
An orchard of mutant super apples somewhere upstate. They can be sentient.
Bands of super mutants in the Adirondacks, including a small band of relatively nice ones in Lake Placid who crave some sweet powder more than they do gore bags.
The mother of all Tesla-somethings in Niagara
A fetch quest from someone in Rochester to put together the fixins of a garbage plate
Also I feel like Poughkisbee and Vassar would be thier own heavily armed city state. Getting tech or books from a paranoid Vassar Republic could be good.
Also I want Vermonter to be the height of insult. And the Commonwealth isn't that far away...
Can the super mutants in the Adirondacks be basically Quakers?
I'm picturing more peacenik stoner-ey ski bums.
Also: if there's any way to do this without being/seeming antisemitic, have the resorts in the Catskills (which I'm sure would be double extra corny in the Fallout universe) still running but ghoulified.
