Damn Archery in pop culture is making me want to get back into it Like the only sort I was ever good at and with Katniss, Brave, and Hawkeye all up in my face I feel the urge to get back to the bow. →[More:]
My shoulders disagree.
I did a little archery at summer camp and absolutely loved it. I tend to like those precision kinds of sports - sporting clays, darts. My fantasy is to learn biathlon.
It is a lot harder than it looks, too. NOt surprised about the aches!
I haven't done it in ages. I just don't have the time; especially not to slog out to Queens or Brooklyn. Maybe when I'm rich and I have a house out in the country, where I can build my own range...
Weird - I was just thinking about things I want to do, and archery is one of them. I did it for a few years in camp and love it. Maybe that could be my mid-life crisis - it'd be a lot cheaper than buying a sports car or motorcycle.
My brother is into archery. I find with the sites, it's hard to be too off. I'm not stringing a longbow or any wacky crap like that, but I like the Weather Man for its archery angle. And Michael Caine. And the chicken mcnugget scene.
I used to be active in the SCA and started both fighter training and archery. I stuck with archery because when you hit a butt, the butt doesn't hit back.
(I still remember having a great morning of practice at Pennsic one year, then totally blowing things in the afternoon competition. So maybe those butts metaphorically spanked me.)
What's your opinion of fencing? I took a semester of that, and it sort of scratches the same itch, though I didn't really get into sparring with another person as much as I did aiming at a target.
