Ah, the needless struggle Why bother? With anything? Because you care. But you can choose to care. And many people don't. How do you deal with these people?
I go through this a lot. I remind myself that just because I choose to care doesn't mean others have to do the same. Being a martyr doesn't help anyone and it only hurts ME- because after all, who cares that I care? Only me! Feeling bitter about things I'm ultimately choosing to do only wastes my own time. So I try to focus on the things I do want to do and say no to the things I really don't want to do (even if it means no one else will do it- if the choice is between "I do this" and "It doesn't get done", oh well then. I can't do everything).

So here's my problem in a nutshell of sorts: I find it very hard to do things unless I actually care about them. Not overwhelmingly or all-consumingly, just at all. If I'm going to bother doing something, I may as well give a shit or why even bother?
And yet, most people can get away with so little conscious effort that they don't know what to do at all when someone does care. They get offended or start questioning themselves or feel threatened or whatever.
If something needs to get done and no one else can/is able to do it, that's reason enough for me, but it's just the humoring people along the way that seems so unnecessary.

Martyrdom is so outside the scope of what I'm talking about, and a big league sin if we are talking sin (and I could talk about sin all day), but why does one have to reassure people who don't give a shit that it's okay not to give a shit? Why does what I think even matter, unless they are so worried about what other people think they are suddenly concerned, because that's what they give a shit about?

If most of every job is just managing other people's feelings, why is that not the job description? I call that sales, or marketing, hr, pr, "client relations," "liaison," blah, blah blah, etc.

"Here's the goal. We need to reach this goal in x amount of time. Here are the necessary steps to do that."

What is the freaking problem.
