One of the Runaways first big tours was opening for Rush on the west coast. Joan snuck into their dressing room and pissed on Alex's guitar because Rush's roadies constantly gave the girls grief. I would guess that picture is from just before they joined up on the road.

In Rolling Stone's review of the Runaways' first album, the reviewer compared them to a cross between Deep Purple and AC/DC. That would also pretty well describe Rush's first two albums.

I never knew of this Rush/Runaways connection! So I guess I was more surprised by it than you were. But still, wow, what a pic. :)

If you can find bootlegs of Rush from this period, Alex sounds more like Joe Perry than a progrocker. Bringing Neal into the band pushed the other two into becoming more sophisticated musicians.

Have you seen that documentary that came out a couple years ago? They still call Neal the New Boy.

BTW, Lita and Cherie appear to have reconciled. These two had personal issues, whereas Joan's differences with Lita were more musical, so a reunion is looking like a possibility.
