Favorite SuperBowl ad? This was definitely mine. Followed closely by the VW ad with the dog getting in shape.
Was it my imagination, or were there an awful lot of car ads this year, vs. other years? I mean yeah cars are a big ad item, but it seemed like this year more than every other ad was for a car.
Only one I liked at all was Ferris Bueller. Get off my lawn.
I liked the rescue dog Weego who could fetch beer. I also like the Toyota commercial that featured the guy finding a couch of women in his apartment, then it switches to men, and he looks accepting/pleased. The NYTimes called it "the first gay-friendly moment in a game spot".
I wasn't really impressed with any of them this year. I've never gotten around to seeing Ferris Bueller so that one went over my head. Most of the rest seemed really forced or just dumb.
I thought that the VW teaser (the Bark Side) was far superior to the actual superbowl ad. VW seem to have removed it from their site, but luckily it is preserved for posterity on YouTube.
The problem with that VW ad with the dog is that it barely has a VW in it. If bearwife hadn't reminded me, I wouldn't have even remembered that it was a car commercial.
Honestly, I thought this year's SB commercials were pretty weak stuff. Not one of them stood out to me as particularly clever or new. Though, perversely, I did get a lot of laughs out of the terms "Bud Light" and "Top Shelf Flavor" being purposely, and non-ironically, used together in a sentence.
