What did you think of the President's SOTU speech? Total Obamaphile here so interested in what others thought.
It is to his credit that he was sitting on the information that that same Navy Seal team had just made a dramatic rescue, and he did not mention it. That's being pretty cool. . .
I didn't watch it, but I did read the transcript this morning. I hope there are enough lawmakers with the kahunas to do the right thing & support his ideas. I don't know how he can maintain such passion & optimism in that sea of obstructionist negativity.
Also, that hug with Garbrielle Giffords was a warm, dignified snapshot of humanity.
My wife watched, and I heard most of it while she watched. I saw it as a good set-up for the upcoming election. I felt like he did a good job of positioning himself for the upcoming year, and giving himself the chance to blame congress for many things during the election. I mean face it, congress isn't going to pass shit this year, especially anything that might make the president look good. It seems like he's at least making the appearance of taking the high road, as he should, and it's especially striking when you compare it to the rhetoric of the republican primaries.
I thought it was OK. I was encouraged to hear a little stronger language on economic inequality. I have a personal love and admiration for him but also wish he wasn't as committed to the centrist/bipartisan appearance as he is, because it feels to me like a losing game. However, he has better strategists than me so perhaps it really is the right way to re-election, which is very important of course.
It got me really excited actually. I wasn't looking forward to it but agreed to watch it, and I was impressed by Obama scolding congress and proposing so many new tax plans.
I've also never seen a politician say "stop teaching to the test" and advocate more teacher control over education and less testing, so I am into that too.
It was a little annoying how every 10 seconds he was like "Remember how I killed bin Laden?" But I guess he needs to do that for the election.
