What did you think of J. Edgar? (link to trailer)[More:]
Some of the reviews are quite tepid.
But I was spellbound.
It covers an important historical aera, it triggers political ruminations for me without spelling them out, it has an intrigueing historical protagonist and a touching romance.
If I had to find one criticism I'd say that the ending was rather slow and too long.
Amazing that an 81 yr old former blockbuster actor can make such a movie.
Still haven't seen it, but will, for the highly praised performance by one of my favorite actors, at least.

If it was Philip Seymour Hoffman it would be a must see for me. DiCaprio lowers it to will rent.

Come on. That role was made for Hoffman.

That's up to you of course splunge.
But I didn't find DiCaprio an obstacle to enjoyment of the movie.

Well, strange that nobody seems to have seen it.
I just decided that I'll take my 82 yr old father to that movie.

I want to see it but I think I missed it when it was in the theaters (I don't pay very good attention), so now it will be a while.

I don't wanna see DiCaprio in women's underwear and a garter belt.

Honestly, it never interested me. Not even as a rental.

It's only just started showing here in the UK. I heard a very positive review on the radio the other day, & that makes me want to see it.

I think DeCaprio is an extraordinary actor (and don't get me wrong, I've been a PSH fan since I first saw him on screen.) Like Pitt, I think he gets dinged on recognition for his acting talent because he is too good looking. I also appreciate how willing he is to take on less commercial roles.

I think the problem is that Hoover himself is so unappetizing as a subject. (Meryl Streep's new movie about Margaret Thatcher, which is apparently another remarkable performance, has a similar difficulty.)

I see what you mean; indeed I'm less than eager to see the Iron Lady because of my memories of the real Thatcher.
Somehow that didn't bother me during watching J. Edgar.
