Winter is Finally Here! →[More:]We had a bit of snow twice in November (a couple inches each time) that were quickly rained away.

It snowed Friday night and Saturday morning to the tune of about four inches. Sunday was sunny and very cold and it froze the left over snow into a crunchy mess.

It's been snowing since Sunday night sometime and we have about five or six inches so far. We're supposed to get approximately another five inches over the rest of Monday. AND it's supposed to continue Tuesday and Wednesday (for a total of 20 inches) and turn into mixed snow and rain on Thursday.

If it continues as it is supposed to, it will be the most snow we've had in several years. Wheee!

20 inches?! Wow, all we got the other day was about 2 inches, now frozen to a crunchy ice-covered something-or-other.

We do have, however, temps that keep dipping below 8f and a humid wind that I am convinced is trying to kill me.

My boys have retreated behind my prostate and I don't think I'll be seeing them for a few months.

It was 50 last Wednesday. Last Thursday it snowed and started hovering around the 20s, and has stayed there. Ice all over, car wheels covered with sludge. Blecch.

After a warm Dec/early Jan (it was like 60 on New Years! so lovely!), the temps have finally dropped and it feels more like winter. I'm still hoping for no snow or minuscule amounts this year.

Last night was 15 below and the night before it was 10 below. These were the first really cold nights of the year. We have probably only had 12-15 inches of snow so far this year total. There's probably 4 or 5 inches on the ground now. It's been a very mild winter to date. I'm hoping it continues.

Right now getting 'near record' low temps (which for SLO County is anything below 30F, even mid-winter, so NO SNOW) but January, usually one of the wettest months of the year, has been bone dry... That is expected to change in a few days, just in time for a rainy weekend (sorry M-F workers). Right now, it's bright, clear and seriously tempting to go out into the 55F degrees without a sweater... waitaminute, do I even own a wearable sweater? Okay, jacket.

Winter slapped me in the face Friday morning, but today it's in the 40s. I feel like I should check an almanac, but the idea of walking all winter has been slapped right out of my head. 17 degrees plus vicious wind is just painful.

The mister just went out for groceries. He said that on his way back the radio advised people to stay off of the highway unless it was an emergency and then drive it only if you had 4WD or chains. There are a lot of folks sliding off onto the verges. Yikes!

It's been -10°F here the last few days, after a big snowstorm that dumped two feet in 36 hours. We've broken the season-snowfall-as-of-January-9 record of all time.

I love it.

We have had a few dustings down here the past few days but between midnight and 10 tomorrow morning we are supposed to get 2" or so on the valley floor, which translates to a no-school day because people around here go apeshit, driving, in that much snow because we never see much of the stuff. It has been a strange, dry, cold winter, so far.

(I put another piece of wood in the stove between preview and post.)

Speaking from the other side of the equator, today was warm and humid. It threatened rain all day, but it never came. Tomorrow I expect it will be more of the same.

Deborah, what part of the lower mainland are you at ? At sea level in West Van there isn't a speck of snow, but some cars coming down from the upper levels have an inch or two on them......and the daffodils are coming out here too

There was snow on Thursday, and then some freezing rain, and then I went out of town for the weekend. There must have been more ice while I was gone, because when I tried to get out of the car to go into the house, it was solid ice, and the only thing to do was take off my shoes and walk across in my socks. Colllllddddd . . . . .

Grey and snowy and sloshy since the temperature spiked today. The wintrier weather is making me feel like having Christmas all over again. Would that be permissable? If not, I will settle for Burns Nicht at the end of the month.

Envious of your daffodils, BoringPostcards. The smell of them in the spring is one of my favorite things all year.

We've been having the 70-degree days, 35-degree nights that pretty much keep me sick constantly. It's lovely at about 2pm, though.

Winter got around to us last week, with lows allll the way down to the 20's. Brr. It's gone again, though, and this week should all be in the 70's like yesterday.

We usually have one or two more brief cold passes per winter before it warms up for good. Usually the first one in January is the worst, though.

We got a couple of inches of snow about a week ago. Right now, it's 52F outside, and the thunderstorms have moved through. Tonight, the low is expected to hit 18F, ensuring that any standing water from the storms will freeze solid for the morning commute.

Personally, if I never see another flake of snow the rest of my life, I'll be a happy, happy person.

We got maybe an inch the day before yesterday and another 2 inches yesterday. People in Puget Sound don't deal with snow very well. Whenever I hear them whining, I just freeze them with a look and say, "I used to live in Michigan where studs and chains are illegal." So there, you pantywaists.

In other news, I was moving stuff from one pile to another and found the last four bunnypins from the Bunnypin Conspiracy.

If one of the mods sends me a mailing address, they shall become the apples of discord and the mods can be Eris.

It's stopped snowing but it's -17 with a wind chill factor taking it down to -24. There have been warnings of white out conditions because of the wind. I've read that the Seattle are is getting hit pretty hard as well. Wheee!
