The Rise of the Singing Christmas Tree. As someone who thinks the best part of the holidays is all the tacky, wretched excess, I'm a fan of those towering cones of singing people.
I think I need some tacky, wretched excess. My friend spray painted her white tree pink. I'll share if it turns out to have that gloriously kitschy quality that is so easy to adore.
When I was working for Disney back in 2001, I was part of their "Candlelight Choir" celebration and when we were on stage singing some of the most beautiful music ever (including a bit from the Hallelujah chorus!) and with John Tesh and Barry Bostwick narrating (on two consecutive days), we were arranged into a tree formation. Being short and an alto/second soprano, I was almost always near the middle.
It was awesome, and I just now realized that unless I never want to see my parents for Christmas or my parents ever decide to winter in NYC (yeah right), I'll never be in a Christmas Day choir ever again.
Wow, I hadn't seen anything like that yet. These concerts make our church pageants growing up look sick. When your Christmas concert has the production values of "Celtic Woman" you're in an entirely different league.
