30 November 2011

Every year Largehearted Boy's list of "best of" lists is a source of me being reminded of records I forgot came out this year. His site is a godsend for music fans anyway, but for this annual recap alone he is a hero!

Are you doing yours on your blog again this year, Slack? I dug it a lot last year.

Thanks ufez! I'm still on the fence, but if I do it again it definitely won't be as elaborate as last year's. I started setting that one up in August - this year I haven't even made a list of contenders yet. I'm way behind - and I take these things way too serious to do it half assed. If I'm not working on it by the weekend it may just end up being a simple top 20 list with some comments sometime midmonth. I've only missed doing a year end music recap list once in the past 27 years, so I doubt I'll skip it entirely.

I'm still in debt to you Slack for introducing me to The Sadies in last year's best of list. Darker Circles has been in heavy rotation on my phone for the last year.

You know what I have been needing some new songs.

It's difficult for me because I am very picky. For example I love Amon Tobin but other stuff that would be filed next to it makes me want to die a puke death. Even the stuff by a given artist I might like two songs and hate the rest. It takes time and money to find la new stuff on my own. But I've been thinking I need an infusion.

Already I'm finding stuff I like from this line. Thank you!

I'll be looking forward to whatever you do, Slack. At least if you limit it to 20 albums, I'll only wind up out $30 this year (no regrets!).

I think I could actually pull together a top ten albums of 2011, though, as I think I actually bought about 15 albums that were released this year (somewhat of an aberration for me as I tend to lag 3-4 years behind). If we have a MeCha "best of 2011" thread, I'll throw something out there.
