Dog experience grass & sunlight for first time ... and get to meet other dogs ... [More:]Ever wonder how an animal whose whole life has been dedicated to pharmaceutical research would behave, when it is finally let out of a cage?

This is the best reason I can think of, for buying non-animal tested shampoo and cosmetics.
OK, totaly made me sniffle.

Here's the organization's website. I think they are based in California. (Main contact's phone is 310 area code, which is CA)

OMG boo hoo hoo. Yeah, you have to have a heart of steel not to respond to this.

I was thinking as I watched this that a video like this could be really useful in therapy, especially in situations of abuse or when you need to leave a relationship. That first moment when the first beagle had the door wide open but simply could not comprehend stepping out of the cage - and was truly scared to - spoke volumes about how an animal just adapts to being trapped until you are trapping even yourself.

McVie singing Songbird is enough to kill me, then add in what we do the utterly defenseless....I've go to do something. Thanks for posting.

What MonkeyButter said - the song is enough to make me cry by itself, but that dog's anxious little face when his crate door was opened just destroyed me.

What about lab rats?

I don't use products tested on any animals, Ardiril, including lab rats. (Used to own a rat. She was smart and affectionate and fun.)

I admit this gets tougher when we are talking about medications, but it is an easy call for toiletries and makeup. And, for that matter, medical school training, which certainly doesn't require live animals to be effective.

I love rats, but they never seem to get the level of respect as other lab animals.

It's an important question for sure. Where do we draw the line and why. Unfortunately I know I would be rendered a liability in the argument/fight as I am too close, even to rats, to not go completely stabby on the opposition.

BTW, for anyone that is interested, the site linked above has lists of manufacturers that do and don't use animal testing.

Rats get the big ups in neuroscience.
I don't think I can watch this right now.
