Alabama Shakes are completely kicking my ass tonight. I implore you to watch the following YouTube clips so they can do the same for you: "Hold On" :: "I Found You" :: "You Ain't Alone"→[More:]They only have a four song EP available right now, available from bandcamp (link available through their site), but I bought it in hopes that it'll fund some more recording time for them. Fantastic stuff. I can't recommend it highly enough.

BitterOldPunk is at my house this weekend, and he just introduced me to these folks yesterday. They are indeed pretty wonderful.

North Alabama, man. Something in the water. These guys are about to BLOW UP.

From what I hear, they posted something to YouTube back in July or August and that caught the attention of the (excellent) music blog Aquarium Drunkard. Then Pat Hood of the Drive-By Truckers saw it on Aquarium Drunkard, was blown away, and invited them along to open a leg of the Truckers tour. This resulted in a CMJ showcase show in New York. Now they've retained one of the top entertainment lawyers in the state to represent them.

This band is going to be EVERYWHERE soon, and it'll be fun to say that we saw them way back when.

Heh. That's some serendipity.

That'll be an awesome show, BOP. I checked their tour dates, but (sadly yet unsurprisingly) Tulsa isn't on there. I'll settle for the LP that'll (hopefully) be released sometime next year.

The groove is just so awesome and it sounds like they're using vintage instrumentation. But it's fresh. LOVE this.

I bought their EP a few weeks ago and have been playing it to death ever since. Brittany Howard is an amazing vocalist (and pretty fair guitar player) and the band just kills.

Just gave me a big happy-buzz over here, smiling—thank you for posting this. They have that thing that you just can't fake—they're having fun, and giving it to us, too. I've just sent it on to some friends, pass on that happy thing to people I care about.

Looks like they were in Austin, played Stubbs last month; hope not to miss them next time through.
