Poster girl I have an old chest of drawers I'd like to spruce up by painting and découpaging a poster on the front. I've chosen "Summer" by Alphonse Mucha as the poster, but as with a gorgeous gay gay, the orientation is wrong for my purposes.[More:]I need a poster that is 26" x 22" or a little larger, so I've had to crop the image severely to get it to the right proportions for my project. And I'm fine with just using a "waist up" section of "Summer", but now I have to figure out how to get the poster printed in the right size.

Has anyone had experience using any of the online "print your own poster" businesses? I will need this poster printed on the kind of paper normally used for good quality art posters (so the poster will stand up to being decoupaged) and don't want to spend a bomb on it — under $50 at the most.
I don't have any ideas about poster businesses, but if you end up at a local print shop be sure the ink is water proof.

And, I love your idea of putting this on your furniture! Wonderful!

I work in print publishing.

I hope you have a very high resolution scan of that piece to start with. Take the pixel count of your cropped image and figure out the number of pixels per inch you'll end up with. If you're okay with low-res image enlarged, that's fine – just be aware (before you spend money) what to expect.

mightshould's point about the ink good. Even if the print is technically "waterproof" you might want to experiment with a small image from the same printer. If you're dealing with a local shop they may be willing to cut you a random square from a bad print they would otherwise be trashing if you explain that you need to test to see if the glue will dissolve/smear the ink.
