Did you really watch "The Wire?" Or did you just browse the Wikipedia entry so you could sound like one of the cool kids? The US government wants to make it [More:]illegal to violate the Terms Of Service (TOS) of any website. Did you say you were 6' tall when you are really only 5' 10"? Better fix that dating profile. Full bill here (PDF).
Just a reminder; the Metachat TOS requires you to "vigorously stroke a chicken every Arbor Day."

So everyone's lied to me that The Wire isn't totally deadly dull?

Sheeeeit.

I can recall seeing part of an episode at some time. Probably while at a hotel that had HBO. I had heard the buzz, but could only hang-on for a short time. I found nothing of interest.

I keep going to the DVD rental place waiting for the person who has yet to return episode 1 so I can watch the whole series . It will be there one of these days

I lived in Baltimore too long to watch The Wire. Too close to home.

I too caught a part of an episode. It was formulaic and boring.

Interesting - I don't identify with most of the comments. I can't stand 97% of TV shows because they're loathsome, insulting tripe. The Wire is definitely in the remaining 3%. Currently rewatching season 1.

Have watched the whole series (WITH SUBTITLES, really key for understanding) and it is by far the best thing I have ever seen on TV. I also bought it -- it is that good -- and am warming up for a full re-viewing.

The problem with The Wire is not that it is dull -- it is incredibly far from that -- but that it is so realistic that seeing it creates some real life despair.

Re the TOS thing, how Big Brother. Good grief.

I have yet to watch The Wire, but I want to. I apparently need to into the library and "see a librarian regarding my account". No, I have no idea what's going on.

Exactly.

I have The Wire on my list. Great suggestion, Bearwife, to use the subs. Thanks.

As for Big Brother? They just keep hammering away at privacy/rights trying to get their mitts on the WWW.

I did not immediately fall in love with The Wire, but I did with Omar. I'd watch it just for Omar (except the last season) but it is worth letting it grow on you.

Omar is totally cool. Stringer Bell got under my skin too, to my surprise. And of course so did Bubbles. And all the kids. There are a heck of a lot of compelling characters.

I thought the Barksdales were both pretty charismatic. I'd say more but I feel super spoilery.

I just started watching the whole series again. We are starting Season 2 Saturday. It's surprising what I remember and it's fun noticing nuances I couldn't have appreciated the first time thru.
I agree about Omar and Wallace just breaks my heart. I think I'm in love with Bunk.

Oh, I loved the whole series from the get-go. But then, they filmed it in my neighborhood when I was living in Baltimore. I didn't live in the best neighborhood, no.
