I'd be scared to try that thing even with a helmet. And I bike without a helmet.

As a confirmed helmet wearer, it's worth pointing out that in some cases, adding more mass to the head in situations where the body is subject to accelerations in unusual directions may worsen the injury. Also, helmets protect by breaking; they spread the force of the impact across more space and time. Twanging around in the air between two posts, it's hard to envision the impact risk outweighing the virtual certainty of the sore neck.
