Jessie's Girl by Rick Springfield (from 1981) may be one of the best pop songs ever written, but the video is... less than great.
... then my son, Jesse, got himself a girlfriend. Even now that they have moved, listening to this is creepy.

Love this song. Always have.

I dunno. I think both the song and video are less than great. YMMV, I guess.

Gawd I hated that song when it came out. Real harbinger of how bad the '80s were going to be.

It's a great song. Not good, mind you. Great.

Which is why I was gobsmacked when I learned that it's the second song on the album. Here is Mr. Springfield's contribution to the canon and they don't lead off the record with it?

I was the right age but the wrong personality to be smitten Rick Springfield in his heyday. It was only with this wrenching, exhausting, incredible scene from Boogie Nights that I noticed what a great song it is. ("Jessie's Girl" starts about five minutes into the scene.)

Of course, that linked scene is a GREAT BIG SPOILER from quite late in the film, so don't watch it if you haven't seen the movie.

Also, the link from Boogie Nights is NSFW. I mean... it's from Boogie Nights, y'know?
