Reassure me that I am paranoid! All of my stuff had to be put in a storage
pod in my driveway after the hurricane (my apartment is currently down to the studs). It occurred to me last night that maybe I should be worried about bed bugs living in the pod (before it came to me) and infesting my stuff.
→[More:]I live in NJ, not terribly far from NY where there is a significant bed bug problem. So, today I did an internet search for bed bugs in pods and came up with nada. I also called Pods and asked them if they treat for bed bugs (they spray the pods, I don't know with what) and if they have ever had any complaints from people becoming infested with them after using a pod ("I have worked here 5 years and I've never gotten a complaint about that"). I also called an exterminator and he said he has never gotten a call for bed bugs in any storage unit and if he was me he wouldn't worry about it. He said that it would cost $400 for a bed bug sniffing dog to sniff around the pod and that they aren't even all that reliable.
But I have this lingering fear because I know people have gotten them from moving vans and non-portable storage facilities. Should I just calm the hell down and not worry about it? Would you worry? I am high strung as it is and all of the stuff going on in my life lately has really kicked up my anxiety. I guess I am looking for your voices of reason. I really don't want to pay hundreds of dollars to treat something that very likely isn't even an issue, but I also don't want to get bed bugs.
